Community Health Service (Harsh Nagar)

 

Karuna Hospital was started in 1978 as a simple dispensary to provide the services in inaccessible /un reached areas of tribal population with an objective to bring positive change in the living conditions of tribal people, especially in the lives of women and young girls in 55 villages having 60,000 populations.

   

Later on looking to the needs of the tribal’s the institution slowly expanded additional facilities. At present the hospital have 70 bedded maternity IP ward. 2 OT theaters, pediatric unit, ICU, Dental clinic, Orthopedic & Physiotherapy unit. The hospital is well equipped with diagnostic facilities, including X ray, scanning and pathology laboratories. In order to strengthen the out reach activities, Karuna Hospital have started two satellite health centers to meet the medical needs of tribal community. 20 village volunteers with minimum wages were appointed these 55 villages to carry out the following activities:

   

Formation of Self help group & it’s follow-up

Support Health staff in Immunization

Support health staff for Antenatal care

Education through running of non formal schools

School health programmes

 

Main Activities

   

Primary Health care :-

Training of village health workers & ANMs

IEC :-

55 villages – Awreness about health care and avail schemes with Government

Socio Economic Development :-

Agriculturally focused livelily hood development in liaison with existing government programmes.

Linkages :-

Establishing partnership linkages with Panchayat, Tehasil, Block, local primary health centre, local national banks to facilitate to avail various benefit schemes introduced by Government

   

In addition to this Karuna Hospital is a trustee member of Harsh Nagar leprosy colony. SDM is the Chairman of this colony. Due to non availability of fund with the trustee, Karuna Hospital had to take the responsibility of the inmates of the colony. 235 inmates among 98 families are living in the colony. At present Karuna Hospital is providing the following free services to these inmates.

Patients required other medical care is referred to Karuna hospital.

 
 

Observations

   

135 patients with disabilities and 45 ulcer cases required medical care.

Patients were not given MCR foot wear by NLEP/ Karuna Hospital due to paucity of budget.

79 children of LAPs were sent for higher education in other states like A.P, Maharashtra & Guajarat.

Patients with other ailments are referred to  Karuna Hospital for free treatment.

Support in Income generating schemes – Poultry , Goat rearing & Agriculture with inadequate resources.
