The Harsh nagar leprosy colony is one of the service area of this department. was began in 1985. It is a registered trust. as Leprosy is a stigmatized diseases even today, the affected people are chaise away from the families and villages, we consult patients and admit them with us and start the treatment and rehabilitative care. The health, Education, food, housing and the whole stay is organized by the social work department of Karuna hospital.

   

 At present we have 153 Adults who are patients, among forty patient’s needs daily dressing of the wounds. They are in need of  some skill training and income generation activities in which we request the government support. Since this colony  also lack the power supply we have requested  to  The Pavizham rice mill in Kerala to donate a solar lighting system for the colony. The Avni Enegy solutions came to help and we are able to light up 75 individual houses with solar lights .All the eligible children are taken care by the CHD to educate we have received support from many like minded people,94 children who are studying in the schools Namely: st. George Balika girls school in Pune, St. George Balagram in Hyderabad, St. Paul’s balagram in Itarsi and St Mary’s in Barwani.

Along with the department of Community Health a School of Nursing attached to the Hospital was also started in the year 1992. This has helped to train and equip the young girls to take up medical service as a profession in life.

 

Support Required by LEPRA Society :

   

Support in providing medicines required for ulcer dressings and treatment of other ailments.

Facilitate in provision of appropriate MCR footwear to all the needy patients.

Provide regular Technical support from TRU to ensure  quality services to the patients.

Assist in availing benefits from schemes introduced by Government.

Remuneration to the Volunteers to strengthen referral of leprosy suspects  from unreached areas.

Facilitate in arranging Training on Leprosy to Volunteers working in un reached areas.
